Activity details
Just one hour from Anchorage, this cruise brings you right up to the face of Portage Glacier, no hiking or flights required.
Board the M/V Ptarmigan, a custom-built sightseeing vessel with a heated indoor cabin and open-air deck, and travel across the iceberg-filled waters of Portage Lake. Along the way, you’ll pass waterfalls, steep mountain cliffs, and floating ice before arriving at the glacier itself.
Once there, you’ll have time to take it in, capture photos, and, with a bit of luck, witness ice calving into the lake. Onboard narration adds context throughout the journey, making it as informative as it is scenic.
This is one of the easiest and most accessible ways to experience a glacier in Alaska, ideal for families, first-time visitors, and anyone looking to add something memorable to their itinerary.
